The Museo Sa Bassa Blanca north of Alcúdia is a real insider tip on Mallorca - and not just for art fans.
Do you fancy some art in Mallorca? In the north of the island you will find a very special place that not everyone knows! The Museo Sa Bassa Blanca is located near Alcúdia hidden in the green and is a great destination – not only for art lovers!
Tip: Combine your visit to the Museo Sa Bassa Blanca with a trip to the old town of Alcúdia! Here you can find my guide for Alcúdia
Welcome to my travel blog
Hey, I’m Tatiana and I’m the blogger behind The Happy Jetlagger. Since 2014, I’ve been sharing my personal travel stories on this blog. I don’t have a big team behind me, so I’m pretty much a one-person show: I’ve researched and tested all recommendations myself.
Even though Mallorca is just an island, there are more museums, galleries and art exhibitions than you might think. Larger museums, however, are more likely to be found in Palma, such as Es Baluard with contemporary art and large temporary exhibitions. I was all the more surprised when I heard about the Museo Sa Bassa Blanca for the first time.
This special place is located in the very north of Mallorca, in the middle of the La Victória peninsula and is so surrounded by dense forests that you would hardly find your way here on your own – if it weren’t for the narrow, lonely road that winds its way here from the small village of Mal Pas-Bonaire.
Pull up to the line, says the small sign at the entrance, and the entrance gate to another world opens as if by magic: the Museo Sa Bassa Blanca is more a work of art than a museum.

You can find numerous articles and exciting locations for the island on my Mallorca page!
The main building is named after its architect Hassan Fathy, and houses large parts of the collection of the artist couple Yannick Vu and Ben Jakober, whose foundation is also responsible for the Museo Sa Bassa Blanca. You can only get in as part of a private tour – and then a small art universe reveals itself. Paintings, installations, photographs, mementos from a life that has always somehow revolved around art.
Particularly striking is the high proportion of African art, which blends seamlessly with the Moorish style of the entire building. Originally an old Mallorcan country house, here details such as tiles and windows from Andalusia and Morocco built in . Even a Mudejar coffered ceiling from the 15th century made it here and I felt directly reminded of Marrakech.
Spectacular is the view from one of the terraces across the landscaped courtyard (unfortunately not open to the public) to the open sea.
In a former underground water reservoir, called Aljub, is the permanent exhibition “NINS”, a collection of about 150 portraits of children from the 16th to the 19th century.
In complete contrast is the Socrates room with its collection of contemporary art and other exhibits. You can visit both without a guided tour.

Around the main house and the exhibition rooms you can explore the sculpture park and the rose garden. In the sculpture park you will even find some shady picnic spots – bringing your own food and enjoying the atmosphere is explicitly allowed!
If you don’t have picnic utensils with you, you can also take a culinary break in the museum’s café. The ingredients for the dishes there come partly even from own cultivation! In the middle of the rose garden, which you can also see, vegetables are also grown.
You have several options when choosing your ticket: The cheapest ticket only includes admission to the sculpture park and rose garden. There is a small surcharge for the two galleries Nins and Sokrates.

The main house can only be visited as part of a one-hour private tour, which you can book on site.

Up to 20 people can participate in the tour, but there is also no minimum size. Spontaneous tours are also possible, there is always someone to guide through the house – so much spontaneity and possibly a really private tour in a small group or even alone make up for the higher price.
My personal tip: First buy a single ticket online for the park and the galleries and then just see on site whether you still want to see the main house or whether you are already well occupied with the rest of the grounds.
For the Museo Sa Bassa Blanca I would estimate maybe a couple of hours. If you come from another area of Mallorca, you should spend the rest of the day in the area around Alcúdia: There is so much worth seeing here!
