Mercat de l’Olivar

The Mercat de l’Olivar is located in the middle of the city, between the lively Plaça d’Espanya and the popular shopping street Carrer Sant Miquel. The large market hall was opened in 1951 and is thus one of the most traditional in the city. Here you will find the usual market stalls with fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, fish and meat, as well as small snack bars where you can eat at a bargain, especially at lunchtime. Some fishmongers even offer to prepare and serve the freshly purchased fish right on the spot. In addition, you will find culinary souvenirs to take the mediterranean vibe home with you.

Tip: If you are traveling by rental car/own car: There is a parking garage under the Mercat d’Olivar. The garage can be busy, but also very convenient if you want to buy larger quantities.

Mercat de Pere Garau

The Mercat Pere Garau is located in downtown Palma, but it’s off the beaten path in a normal residential neighborhood east of the Avenidas (this is how Palma’s ring road is called by the locals). The Pere Garau district has a long tradition as an immigrant neighborhood. This area is known for its exciting mix of international gastronomy and a wide variety of stores in the streets around the market hall; perfect if you’re on a budget. So if you want to mingle with the locals, this is the place for you!

Tip: There is also an open-air market in front of the market hall. Depending on the day of the week, the offer varies. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays there are clothes and shoes; on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays there are fruits, vegetables, flowers and green plants.

Saturday is the most popular day at the Mercat de Pere Garau. There are more markets stalls and you’ll see more hustle and bustle!

Plaça del Patins

The Mercat ecològic de Palma in Plaça del Patins (also: Plaça Bisbe Berenguer de Palou) is one of the smaller weekly markets in the city. But at this market in Palma you will find only organic products! A great opportunity to stock up on fresh organic fruits and vegetables straight from the island!

Tue + Sat 8pm to 2pm

Tip: Nearby you’ll find a branch of one of Palma’s most popular coffee roasters! La Molienda on Carrer del Bisbe Campins serves the best specialty coffee and delicious brunch dishes.

Around the corner, by the way, begins Carrer de Bonaire, a cute street in the middle of Palma with small boutiques and great places to eat and still completely unknown among most tourists. Perfect for a little walk!

Mercat de Santa Catalina

The Mercat de Santa Catalina is actually worth visiting not only for the market experience, but also for the surroundings. The district of Santa Catalina, in the center of which is the popular market hall, is in fact one of the hippest corners of Palma! Here one hyped restaurant follows the next and the renovated house facades give the former fishing village a very special flair. In addition, you can still find a real old mill and enjoy a magnificent view over the port of Palma.

But back to the Mercat Santa Catalina! Many Mallorcan delicacies await you here, as well as numerous delicatessen specialties. The quality here is so high that even the best chefs in town like to come here and buy their ingredients. Although the market hall is open six days, the most popular and lively market day is Saturday.

Tip: Just outside Palma is the large Sunday market of Santa Maria. However, it is still very easy to reach by public transport from the city centre. At the Estació Intermodal at Plaza España you just have to get on the train (lines T1, T2 or T3) and you will be at Santa Maria station in 20 minutes, which is relatively close to the town center.

Or you can continue to Sineu (line T3) and on Wednesdays visit the oldest farmer’s market in Mallorca, which is one of the biggest attractions on the island. (Travel time from Palma approx. 50 minutes)
