Or you fancy fresh fruit and vegetables straight from the farmer: You’ll also find plenty of opportunities to stock up on produce from local producers in Palma. The Mercat de l’Olivar<\/a> is located right in the heart of the city, between the lively Pla\u00e7a d’Espanya and the pedestrianized Carrer Sant Miquel. The large market hall<\/strong> was opened in 1951 and is thus one of the most traditional<\/strong> in the city. In addition to the usual market stalls with fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, fish and meat, you will also find small snack bars where you can eat cheaply, especially at lunchtime. Some fishmongers even offer to prepare and serve the freshly purchased fish right on the spot. The Mercat Pere Garau<\/a> is located in downtown Palma, but it’s off the beaten path in a normal residential neighborhood east of the Avenidas (this is how Palma’s ring road is called by the locals). The Pere Garau district<\/strong> has a long tradition as an immigrant quarter<\/strong>, and so you will also find an exciting mix of international cuisine and a wide variety of stores in the streets around the market hall – even for those on a budget. So if you want to mingle with the locals, this is the place for you!<\/p>\n\n

Tip<\/strong>: There is also an open-air market<\/strong> in front of the market hall. Depending on the day of the week, the offer varies. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays there are clothes and shoes; on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays there are fruits, vegetables, flowers and green plants. <\/p>\n\n
