Do you fancy some art in Mallorca? In the north of the island you will find a very special place that not everyone knows! The Museo Sa Bassa Blanca<\/strong> is located near Alc\u00fadia hidden in the green and is a great destination – not only for art lovers!<\/p>\n\n

In the north of Mallorca: The Museo Sa Bassa Blanca<\/h2>\n\n

Even though Mallorca is just an island, there are more museums, galleries and art exhibitions than you might think. Larger museums, however, are more likely to be found in Palma<\/strong>, such as Es Baluard<\/strong> with contemporary art and large temporary exhibitions. I was all the more surprised when I heard about the Museo Sa Bassa Blanca<\/strong> for the first time.<\/p>\n\n

\"Entrance<\/figure>\n\n

This special place is located in the very north of Mallorca, in the middle of the La Vict\u00f3ria peninsula<\/strong> and is so surrounded by dense forests that you would hardly find your way here on your own – if it weren’t for the narrow, lonely road that winds its way here from the small village of Mal Pas-Bonaire<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Pull up to the line, says the small sign at the entrance, and the entrance gate to another world opens as if by magic: the Museo Sa Bassa Blanca is more a work of art<\/strong> than a museum.<\/p>\n\n

Hassan Fathy House with exhibition and guided tour<\/h2>\n\n

The main building is named after its architect Hassan Fathy<\/strong>, and houses large parts of the collection of the artist couple Yannick Vu and Ben Jakober<\/strong>, whose foundation is also responsible for the Museo Sa Bassa Blanca. You can only get in as part of a private tour – and then a small art universe reveals itself. Paintings, installations, photographs, mementos from a life that has always somehow revolved around art.<\/p>\n\n

Particularly striking is the high proportion of African art<\/strong>, which blends seamlessly with the Moorish style of the entire building. Originally an old Mallorcan country house, here details such as tiles and windows from Andalusia<\/strong> and Morocco<\/a><\/strong> built in . Even a Mudejar coffered ceiling<\/strong> from the 15th century made it here and I felt directly reminded of Marrakech<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

Spectacular is the view from one of the terraces across the landscaped courtyard<\/strong> (unfortunately not open to the public) to the open sea.<\/p>\n\n

Aljub & Room Socrates<\/h2>\n\n

In a former underground water reservoir, called Aljub<\/strong>, is the permanent exhibition “NINS”, a collection of about 150 portraits of children from the 16th to the 19th century.<\/p>\n\n

In complete contrast is the Socrates room<\/strong> with its collection of contemporary art and other exhibits. You can visit both without a guided tour.<\/p>\n\n

Sculpture Park & Rose Garden<\/h2>\n\n

Around the main house and the exhibition rooms you can explore the sculpture park<\/strong> and the rose garden<\/strong>. In the sculpture park you will even find some shady picnic spots – bringing your own food and enjoying the atmosphere is explicitly allowed!<\/p>\n\n

If you don’t have picnic utensils with you, you can also take a culinary break in the museum’s caf\u00e9<\/strong>. The ingredients for the dishes there come partly even from own cultivation! In the middle of the rose garden, which you can also see, vegetables are also grown.<\/p>\n\n

You have several options when choosing your ticket: The cheapest ticket only includes admission to the sculpture park and rose garden. There is a small surcharge for the two galleries Nins and Sokrates. <\/p>\n\n
